Glam Fitness

This week I’m having lunch with someone from CrossFit (“forging elite fitness”) to talk about how they might put together a Glam/outside.in/The Hype Machine model.

I think a “do what you do best and link to the rest” model, illustrated nicely in the post by Jeff Jarvis, might be just the thing. CrossFit has thousands of affiliates around the US and world all with their own website or blog. If CrossFit, the mother ship, can gather all of the content from the affiliates into an aggregated site (including tons of super video of how people are training and achieving), they could grow the community at an unbelievable rate.

They’ve been growing organically forever and can pretty much take it in whatever direction they want.

And with a lot of people pretty suspicious of the long-term benefits of places like 24 Hour Fitness and Gold’s Gym (and those are the customers), maybe the time is right for them to go Web native. I can envision them in a couple years as one of the next gen fitness org that is just killing the bloated, muscle bound companies that dominate fitness today.
