This Or That Perspective

Right, nothing is at risk for broadcast TV as long as we keep it in perspective. That’s true . . . except the perspective he’s referring to is so limited.

Sure, people love convenience, as Bob says, and so broadcast TV will go for several years, delivering numbers like it always has for those who want to read the data that way. But in those same years Internet/mobile is going to be eroding the values, habits, and tastes of the broadcast audience, while younger people won’t even join that audience.

There are already significant declines in broadcast TV audiences, which is masked by the strike and will be further masked by the election and the Olympics. So 2009 will be telling.

Here’s my perspective: Internet/mobile will not only be more/as convenient as a TV medium in 2009 but also a lot more compelling.
