Yahoo! Needs To Think Independently

By Brooks Jordan | August 31, 2007

Bear Stearns analyst Robert Peck recently wrote “We believe that Yahoo needs to acquire or partner with a social networking site relatively soon or risk being marginalized in some of its businesses.”

This is because something like sixty percent of Internet users in the world are active on a major social networking site.

But, really, it’s too late to acquire what currently looks like (and is called) social networking (. . . that’s why the analysts are talking about it). Yahoo! needs to start building the next form of software that connects people, and I hope they already are. Or if they’re going to acquire it, then they should make a few acquisitions that give people whiplash. Yahoo! should reinvent this space – they have the DNA, they have the culture.

But I wouldn’t pay much attention if I were them to what analysts think they should of done yesterday.
