DoubleClick has two lines of business: affiliate marketing and search marketing. Google does search marketing better than anyone, so . . . there goes search marketing.
“[DoubleClick will] sell the Search Marketing business unit to a third party.” Link.
But the affiliate marketing business will be integrated into Google’s existing framework. Why? The simple, honest-to-goodness recommendation is where it’s at.
Google is going to be a recommendation engine (new) as well as a search engine (current) and help legitimize this way of finding people and products.
