Twitter has become a really important tool because of the bursty, micro conversations.

Lots of geeky people use it to say what they’re doing at any given moment. And that’s pretty cool. It certainly makes you more aware of your environment and what you’re thinking.

That kind of activity got the service going.

But it’s the chatter that’s taking Twitter to the next level, all of the @you replying.

Do you know when it finally sunk in? Watching Sam Lawrence, the CMO of Jive, put out the most unbelievable flow of “tweets” as responses to people who were tweeting him. He wasn’t doing it casually, that’s all he was doing.

And it was pretty brilliant to watch. It was like he was playing the piano, but it was an instrument for micro conversations.
